Boat Rat Matt

Zephyr II
27' Erickson Sailboat
Sold for $1000

I bought this Zephyr Sailboat at a lien sale for $400 and the Atomic 4 engine started right up. Then paid $200 for a months rent for a slip in Mandalay Bay. A couple days later I sold the boat to a couple of crackheads who had $700 down and agreed to pay $700 a month for the next two months. They stayed at the visitors dock for a few days and then brought the boat to Santa Barbara, where then anchored her in the anchorage. They brought the boat up just before a storm. They made it through the storm on anchor but didn't know that they had gotten tangled up in a lobster trap. All of the streams had washed millions of particles of debris into the water and they sucked up a bunch of debris into the water pump and overheated the engine. They turned the engine off while they were drifting and called me. I was in Oxnard so there wasn't much I could do to help so they called the Harbor Patrol. The Harbor Patrol had previously been involved in a flare gun fight with them and had to call the SWAT Team in to arrest them and they weren't very happy about me selling a boat to the crackheads. The Harbor Patrol did not want to leave them drifting without an anchor so they towed them into the Harbor and let them stay on the boat at the impound dock for that night and the next morning they gave me the boat back.

It was pretty easy to clean the garbage out of the water pump but I was baffled why the boat was so slow. I listed her for sale for $1000 and sold her to a pretty cool guy down in LA. We were driving the boat around wondering why she was so slow when the lobster trap got caught on something and popped out. It's amazing how much faster she was without dragging a lobster trap across the bottom.
